ENGINEROOM DEPARTMENT
Machinery generally
4. The engines are arranged in three separate units, which can be cross-connected. Each unit consists of two boilers, situated in one Fire Room, and a set of Turbines driving the shaft through single redaction gearing. The three boiler rooms are abreast of each other, as are the three engine rooms. The engine rooms are separated from the boiler rooms by 40 feet. Revolutions for 24 knots can be reached with three boilers connected.
5. The standard fire main pressure is 60 lbs. Pressure is supplied by 13 pumps, capacity of 270 gallons per minute. Nine of these pumps can be used for nalvage with a capacity of 500 gallons. They cannot be used on the firemain at the same time.
Three emergency Diesel driven pumps are fitted with a capacity of 1,000 gallons per minute at 125 lbs. discharge pressure at the pump. These pumps can only be used on the firemain. All hose connections are Nunan & Stove No.3.
